So this year has started and I´m totally ready to go. With a friend, I am taking on the 30 days to splits challenge by Blogilates. I meant to do it a long time ago, but something always got into the way. Now there aren´t any excuses and I´m going to make it to the end.
I told you about this challenge in my previous 2 posts and one of you asked where to get the challenge. That got me thinking. Have you always wanted to be more flexible? For my part, I´ve always looked up at the girls who were flexible like yogis. (Somehow it was always the girls…?!) I always wanted to be one of them, but I didn´t take action until the beginning of last year. I started stretching and getting better and better. I can say I´m pretty good now, but the splits are still something else. So I´m taking on this challenge.
What about you? Are you in, too?
If you start today, you´ll be done exactly on the 31st January 2016!
Want to be able to do the splits? Here´s how it works :
- warm up with a light jog, jumping jacks or any other kind of light cardio to get your heart rate up and your muscles warm
- Stick to the 30 days. Do not skip a single day. Promise? That’s how you’ll get into the splits.
- Everyday I will need you to do stretches 1-5, your foundational stretches. You may not skip them. So, the first 5 days, you are doing the first 5 stretches! Then beginning day 6, you will just add one move on. So on day 6, you will do 1-5 and 6. On day 30, you will do 1-5 and 30. Get it? So you will do 6 moves a day beginning day 6.
- How long to hold? I want you to hold each stretch for around 30 sec to 1 min per side. Total, each day you should spend around 10 min. stretching.
Here are the stretches!
Let´s do this! Who´s in? Leave a comment down below! ❤
And I´d love to know, if you want me to post more challenges on here? Like one per month? Or one per two months? I love challenges! So, if you love them, too, let´s do it!
Love you guys!
I don’t understand #6 – isn’t that the splits? I am confused what to do for that one.

It’s the splits with a block or book or any object underneath your legs, to assist you in getting the motion right, but at your level, whether that is a pile of four books, or only one 🙂

Have you heard of people that aren’t very flexible having luck with this challenge? I’m giving it a shot regardless. I started pole fitness last fall and being flexible is definitely a bonus to have which I’m not 🤣

Yes! I was very (!) inflexible before and in three months and two run-throughs of this challenge I was doing the splits. 🙂
Oh that’s so fun! I have always wanted to try pole fitness! I totally understand that being flexible is a bonus in pole fitness. So maybe you can give this challenge a shot and see how it works for you 😉

Wow amazing its my day 1! Yeah I’m a bit late but better late than never! I’m a noob and totally not flexible so I try my best to get the right position first than I guess as I get more flexible I’ll be able to be more… open? Haha I wonder how far I’ll go in a month, thanks for this post, I added it in my self care routine 🙂

I used to be able to do the splits but I have not been as active in stretching and such past 5-6 years. I am going to try this challenge and hopefully I can get back to doing them! Here is to a healthier and more active year!

I just discovered this post via Pinterest, all the while thinking that I’m a week or so late… Only to notice that this was posted in 2016! lol. I’m wondering if you’ve had any luck with achieving the splits since? I’ve gotten into doing yoga regularly and am wondering whether daily practice is sufficient or if repeating certain asanas are necessary. Would like to hear your thoughts. Happy 2017! 😉

Sorry for the time it has taken me to get back to you.
Hahaha, but you’re never late to start!! Just do;-)
I did have success with achieving my splits. I have a whole post on it if you like, but the short version is that I did this challenge last January and I got pretty much into the splits at day 20 or so, but not to my satisfaction – if you know what I mean. I then took two months “off”, just stretching 4 times a week after my runs and then doing the challenge all over again. At day 14 I got into the splits perfectly and I was unbelievably happy. I’ve been able to keep up the flexibility the past year, so I can still do the splits. Actually I am currently working on developing a challenge to get into the middle splits as that is my goal this year;-)
To your questions, daily practice is sufficient, yes, it actually is crucial. Repeating certain stretches every day will get to your goals, so again, yes, if you repeat certain asanas that are the ones to take you towards your goals then repeating them is necessary. However I go with the rule that if I have certain stretches or asanas I repeat daily I switch my routine every 30 days. That is because your body get’s used to it and doesn’t react the way it should anymore and your head get’s sick of it as well. So the essence of what I am trying to say is that repetition is crucial, but after a certain time period (you’ll know when you get bored) you should switch things up a bit. That could be just replacing two stretches out of the 5 you’re doing every day.
If you decide to go on the journey to your splits I’d looove to keep updated and hear how it goes! Over your blog or mine? Or over IG? Whatever you like best. And feel free to ask me any other questions (I’ll get back faster next time;-))! Now happy 2017:-) , happy stretching and Namasté!

Hi lady! I’m so sorry for the delayed response, I think that the WordPress app and my domain host aren’t talking to each other, so I didn’t get to see your reply until now.
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Your insights really help, and I agree with so much of it. I’ve been doing the Ashtanga Half Primary Series since the beginning of the year, 6 days of the week. I’ve been seeing great strength, but there’s a long, long way to go in terms of flexibility.
I totally agree with you about the 30 day mark, initially I thought I was being lazy, but I think I’m actually just getting bored right now, so I’m going to switch it up a bit. Many of the asanas depicted in the challenge above are part of the flow I do currently, but I think I should incorporate some of the others, to really try and open my hips.
I’m thrilled to hear about your success and that you’ve been able to maintain it, that’s incredible!! ♥
I will definitely keep you posted. Going to find you on Instagram now too. Hope you’ve had a good Valentine’s day and that the year is going well 🙂

No worries! I hope that this problem is solved now:-(
Yes, flexibility takes time. And that’s great that you’re doing the Ashtanga Series and getting stronger! Progress is so motivating:-)
Oh yes, you should definitely switch it up! I personally change things quite often, so me and my body don’t get bored or used to the exercises!
Thank you!
That’s amazing!! Looking forward to hearing your success:-) oh great, I’ll head over there right now and follow you back!
Thanks, my years good so far, I hope yours is going great as well!
Namaste! XO

How painful is that for a beginner , but I would like to try

Amazing that you’d like to try!! If you’re a beginner, no worries, just do things at your own level, there is no one you are competing against;-) do the stretches stretching as far as you can, challengeing youself a bit, but not getting frustrated! You’ll get there, I promise!!! Then you can take a month break and only stretch every other day and after 30 days start the challenge over. You’ll see how far you’ve come and can go! Just give it time, but also do your best;-) Happ stretching and goooo you!!!!

Hey! So I’m trying to figure out exactly how to do the stretches because I want to do right 🙂 So day six ill do stretches 1-5 and stretch six. Day seven, am I doing stretches 1-7, or stretches 1-5 and stretch 7?

Good luck! I’ve always been moderately flexible but never been able to do the splits, and hate watching youtube videos where they’re like “look its so easy!”. I already do the first five stretches everyday but the other ones should really help 🙂 Thanks!

Thank you! Oh yes, it´s not THAT easy (like one day?!?!), but it´s not that hard either…you have to be consistent and hold long enough.
That´s an amazing start! Yes, they really should help;-) All the best to you! You´ll get into the splits soon! Or we´ll get into the splits together;-)

Beautiful blog! I was working on my splits yesterday in yoga class. I’ve been working on it three years, and still no splits. I used to care, but now I don’t. It’s about the journey! Happy New Year!

Yes, me too…well two years (stretching every week…) and a year (stretching every two days…) now…
If you enjoy the journey that´s amazing! It is really all about that! I´m really enjoying those 5 minutes everyday stretching, I get so relaxed and I can really see a difference already, it´s crazy! You should really try it! If anyone get´s into the splits in those 30 days, then that´s you, my dear yoga pro;-) (those poses on your blog…wow…I wish I could do a crow like that!?) All the best! XOXO
